Unbox your Ledger device (Nano X, Nano S Plus, or Stax), a computer or mobile phone, a USB cable, and a secure, private place to write your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase on the provided recovery sheet.

H4 — Safety first

Never share your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase. Ledger will never ask for it. Use only official Ledger apps and pages when setting up. If in doubt, contact Ledger Support directly via official channels below.

1. Visit the official start page: open ledger.com/start for the device-specific interactive setup.
2. Download Ledger Live: the desktop or mobile app guides the full setup. See Ledger Live download.
3. Initialize device: follow on-screen prompts to create a PIN and generate a 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase. Write the words on the recovery sheet — do not store them digitally.
4. Install apps: via Ledger Live, install only the crypto apps you need (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, etc.).
5. Add accounts: create accounts in Ledger Live for each asset and verify addresses on-device before receiving funds.

Ledger devices generate a 24-word phrase using BIP-39. It is the only way to restore access if your device is lost or broken. Ledger offers a Recovery Check app to verify your backup and a Ledger Recovery Key product for additional protection — see official resources below.
